Rocket Propelled Lucy Sparks |
Kakatte Koi Yo!'s art was inspired by the Momodora series for their crisp silhouettes and lack of outlines aiding the cute and malleable character design.
A year into development unique character designs with a bit more detail were introduced to give players a way to attach themselves to a character beyond their color. This game's art style continues to evolve with each new feature. The first concepts for Masquerader Z began in 2017 as I was first getting into the Kamen Rider series and wanted to do something with a combat focused game. in 2018 I started development on the game as a platformer early into my pixel art journey so the sprites grew to influence the traditional pen and pencil designs. The game's style of pixel art was inspired by Shovel Knight's Specter of Torment and Megaman X.
Rocket Propelled Lucy Sparks was my first attempt at developing a game in a pixel art style back in 2017. The main characetr was designed for the mechanic of rocket jumping in a 2D platformer. This process taught me a lot about working in a set resolution as redesigns spiraled into larger, more detailed sprites that I wasn't experienced enough to make quality animations with. After a year of working in pixel art after this project I returned to the concept by redesigning the main character into something easier to animate with an appealing art style.
